The popular community dinner starts at 6 PM, where everyone sits together at long tables. From Sunday to Wednesday, dinner costs around 75 DKK per person, while Thursday to Saturday includes a two-course meal for about 100 DKK.
I’d definitely recommend booking the community dinner in advance because it can be difficult to find a seat otherwise.
2. Max Burgers
Max Burgers has three locations in Copenhagen city centre and is one of the cheapest fast-food burger options. Their original burger costs 65 DKK, and cheeseburgers are only 15 DKK.
Another budget eat is The Burger Concept, one right at Nørreport Station. Their original burger costs 49 DKK, while cheeseburgers start at just 25 DKK.
The more popular burger spots in Copenhagen are definitely Gasoline Grill and Jagger, both of which have several locations around the city. Their burgers start at 100 DKK, so they’re not the cheapest, but I honestly think the flavour and freshness make them worth it. Gasoline Grill beef burger is still one of my personal favourites for burgers in Copenhagen.
3. Pico Pizza
Pico Pizza is one of the best cheap eats in Copenhagen for Pizza. They serve Neapolitan-style sourdough pizzas and have 6 locations across Copenhagen. Their smaller 10–12 inch pizzas start at 60 DKK, and they also offer a great deal where you can get three pizzas for 160 DKK.
Another really good, cheap restaurant is Pizzeria La Fiorita. From Tuesday to Friday between 11 AM and 4 PM, any pizza on the menu costs only 78 DKK, which is honestly such a good deal in Copenhagen.
Both Mother and Italiano are popular Italian restaurants in Copenhagen for wood-fired pizzas. Italiano also has a lunch offer where any pizza costs 129 DKK. They are more expensive than other places, but many people really like them for the quality and atmosphere.
4. Kösk Kebab
For a budget-friendly dinner place in Copenhagen, Turkish restaurants are a solid pick. They serve big portions and stay open late, which works well after a long day out.
At Kösk Kebab, the Shawarma Durum costs 52 DKK, and the Turkish pizza starts from 79 DKK, so it is easy on the wallet too.
I’ve tried quite a few kebab places while exploring Copenhagen, and areas like Nørrebro and Vesterbro are full of great-value spots.
Places like Kebabistan and Durum Bar are just a couple of the many good options you’ll find around the city.
5. Viet Thai in Nordvest
Viet Thai in Nordvest is a local favourite for affordable Thai and Vietnamese food in Copenhagen.
This small restaurant serves Thai and Vietnamese dishes, and everything on the menu costs under 100 DKK.
The portions are generous, so you’ll definitely leave full. It gets quite busy during peak hours, which means longer wait times. But honestly, the prices and food make it worth it.
One important thing to know is that they only accept cash or MobilePay, no card payments.

6. Lagkagehuset
Lagkagehuset is one of the most popular bakery chains in Denmark and has been around since 1991. Both locals and tourists love it, and honestly, after trying many bakeries across Copenhagen, I still think Lagkagehuset is the best cheap bakery.
In Copenhagen, it’s completely normal for a cinnamon roll to cost around 25–35 DKK at bakeries. So, grabbing a pastry and coffee here for around 60-100 DKK is quite normal.
A simple breakfast of bread or a pastry with coffee is very common among Danes, and Lagkagehuset is an easy place to experience that local bakery culture without spending too much.
Other affordable bakeries are Farumhus and Landbageriet.
7. Scurry Hub
I randomly walked into Scurry Hub one day while walking from the Nørreport Station, and honestly, it turned out to be such a good find.
It’s now one of my favourite places for Thai food in Copenhagen. Their Thai green curry with rice costs 78 DKK, which is a really good deal for the Copenhagen city centre.
Most meals cost under 100 DKK, making it a solid budget-friendly restaurant in Copenhagen.
The eatery is a small space and has a simple menu. The Thai curries and stir-fried noodles are especially popular here.
It can get quite busy, and it’s easy to see why so many students and locals come here for the affordable, quality food.
8. DØP: Den Økologiske Pølsemand
DØP – Den Økologiske Pølsemand is one of the popular street food spots in Copenhagen for classic Danish hot dogs.
They have locations near the Round Tower and Strøget and are well known for organic hot dogs.
The classic roasted pork hot dog is the local favourite and traditional Danish street food that costs 47 DKK. They also serve chicken, beef, goat, and vegetarian sausages.
It is a great option for an inexpensive meal in Copenhagen.
Copenhagen has many pølsevogns (sausage carts), and prices stay fairly similar even outside the main tourist areas. The cheapest hot dog I found in Copenhagen was at Restaurant Fodkold near Rådhuspladsen — just 35 DKK, and I have to say, it tasted so good for the price.
9. Dalle Valle
Dalle Valle is the cheapest buffet restaurant you’ll find in Copenhagen.
It’s a simple all-you-can-eat spot with lots of food options under one roof, and it’s decent for the price in my opinion.
Their lunch buffet costs 79 DKK daily from 10 AM to 4 PM, which is quite affordable. They also offer à la carte meals, but most people come for the buffet.
If you download their app, you can sometimes find 2-for-1 buffet deals for 149 DKK.
It’s not the best buffet in the city, but for a filling, low-cost meal, I really have no complaints after eating there myself.
10. Grød
Grød is a budget-friendly breakfast or brunch spot in Copenhagen that I recommend.
They have 7 locations across the city and are especially known for their porridge bowls, oatmeal, and healthy brunch options.
The food is a 10/10, and the portions are huge and filling for the price.
Oatmeal starts at 79 DKK, while porridge and smoothie bowls cost 99 DKK. They also have plant-based, vegan, and gluten-free options.
I have tried their protein bowl while training for the Mammutmarch, and it was really satisfying and kept me full for hours.
11. Madglad
Madglad in Vesterbro serves affordable home-cooked food in Copenhagen. The value here is honestly hard to beat.
It’s a popular spot among locals and students for healthy, filling meals that don’t cost a fortune.
Takeaway meals for the main dish start at 75 DKK without salad and 90 DKK with salad. If you dine in, meals cost 110 DKK and come with a main dish, bread, hummus, and salad. Kids eat for half price.
Madglad has both vegetarian and vegan food options. The cafe is open only during weekdays in the evening from 4:40 PM to 8:30 PM, perfect for a wholesome, cheap dinner.
12. Studenterhuset
Studenterhuset is a student-run café and bar near the Round Tower, where students from different universities hang out, study, and meet people.
Everyone is welcome, but students get extra discounts and offers through membership.
Prices for drinks and sandwiches (for 28 DKK) are quite reasonable, especially for central Copenhagen. They also have a happy hour every day.
I really like the inner courtyard patio area — it has a relaxed atmosphere and a young crowd.
Beyond the café, Studenterhuset hosts workshops, events, and activities throughout the week.

Next Door Cafe is one of my go-to places for cheap breakfast in Copenhagen.
Everything on the menu costs under 100 DKK. The café is popular, and it gets quite busy in the mornings.
I personally love their muesli for 60 DKK, and the pancakes at 74 DKK are also really good.
They also serve homemade buns, and the atmosphere feels very cosy with communal seating where people share tables and benches.
There’s both indoor and outdoor seating, and the interior has a really nice café vibe. One important tip — don’t forget to ask for the secret menu.
14. Ali Bageri
In Ali Bageri, you can find Middle Eastern food. They’ve been around since 1994 and now have two locations in Copenhagen.
Their authentic Arabic manakish starts from just 25 DKK, which is honestly one of the best-value meals you’ll find. They also serve brunch for 70 DKK.
I personally love their shakshuka, and their tahini is seriously good. And the kunafa in bread? absolutely worth trying.
You’ll also find falafel, fatayer, shawarma, and pizza on the menu, so there are plenty of filling options without spending too much.
15. Palæ Bar
If you want to try traditional Danish smørrebrød, an open-faced sandwich, without overspending, there are quite a few good spots in Copenhagen.
Palæ Bar is one of the best-value places for smørrebrød in the city. Each piece costs 40 DKK, and there’s no fixed menu — you simply walk to the kitchen counter and pick whatever you like that day. You’ll probably need two pieces for a full meal, but even then, it stays under 100 DKK, which is pretty good for Copenhagen.
Domhusets Smørrebrød and Byens Smørrebrød are also good affordable options, with sandwiches costing around 53–55 DKK each. They’re both quite small places but usually have a wide variety to choose from.
Rådhus Smørrebrød offers pieces starting at 28 DKK, or three for 75 DKK. The sizes are small, and you’ll need three to feel full.
If you want something slightly more premium, Hallernes Smørrebrød is very popular, with prices starting at 72 DKK — a bit more expensive, but honestly, really good.
Just head to the one close to you and try the fish fillet with remoulade topping, which is my personal favourite.
Copenhagen Street Food Markets
If you’re wondering where to find cheap food in Copenhagen, the city’s street food markets are some of the best places to start.
Reffen, Broens Street Food, Torvehallerne KBH, and Tivoli Food Hall are the most popular food markets in Copenhagen, with stalls serving both Danish and international food in one place.
They’re usually cheaper than regular restaurants, especially if you want quick meals, snacks, or smaller portions while sightseeing.
During summer, some markets also have weekend deals, events, and food festivals.
I visit these food markets quite often, and honestly, Reffen is still my personal favourite for the atmosphere and harbour views. Make sure to check the opening hours before visiting since they can vary by season.
7-Eleven Convenience Stores
You’ll find sandwiches, hot dogs, pastries, pizza slices, drinks, cookies, muffins, and other quick snacks at most locations, especially the 7-Eleven at train and metro stations.
It’s not necessarily the cheapest food option in Copenhagen, but the convenience really helps, especially late at night when many restaurants are already closed. Yes, some 7-Eleven stores stay open 24/7.
7-Eleven has saved me so many times in Copenhagen after long days. Whenever I’m tired, hungry, and just want something quick, I usually end up in 7-Eleven.
